TP production in Russia increased by 12%

The volume of tobacco production in Russia in the third quarter of this year increased by 12% compared to the same period last year, to 3 billion packages, according to Ekaterina Priezdeva, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, and data from the Center for Advanced Technology Development (CRPT).

"For example, tobacco production amounted to over 3 billion packages. billions of conditional packages, which is about 12% higher than a year earlier," Priezdeva said during a speech at the international Anti-Counterfeit forum.

The press service of the CRPT, which is the operator of the labeling information system, told RIA Novosti that these are data for the third quarter of 2024, the dynamics are shown in annual terms.

Priezdeva recalled that Russia's current policy is aimed at reducing the number of smokers. "We focus on a healthy lifestyle without smoking, that is, people no longer smoke, and the market has grown by 12%. And this is, among other things, due to the fact that the illegal trafficking sector is leaving," the deputy minister said.

In the spring of 2019, mandatory digital labeling of tobacco products came into force in Russia. In November 2024, the Government of the Russian Federation submitted to the State Duma a bill on the introduction of criminal liability for the production and trafficking of tobacco, as well as nicotine-containing products without labeling provided for by the legislation of the Russian Federation.
