Manufacturers and sellers of unmarked tobacco and nicotine-containing products will face criminal penalties up to a prison term. The relevant law was signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The maximum penalty for the crime will be imprisonment for up to three years with a fine of up to 120 thousand rubles or in the amount of a salary for a period of up to six months. Previously, such responsibility was imposed only for the production and sale of unmarked alcohol and tobacco products on a large scale.
The new law establishes the volume of large and especially large sales for all three types of such products - more than 100 thousand rubles and 1 million rubles, respectively.
The law also introduces liability for forgery of excise stamps of nicotine-containing products and their sale - it will amount to a maximum of up to 8 years in prison with a fine of up to 1 million rubles or in the amount of a salary for a period of up to 5 years. Similar liability has already been introduced for counterfeiting alcohol and tobacco product brands.
