The Federal Customs Service of Russia (FCS) seized almost 32 million packs of cigarettes from illegal traffic in January - June 2023. This is stated in the press release of the department.
"The Federal Customs Service stopped the illegal turnover of almost 32 million packs of cigarettes in six months of 2023," the service said.
In addition, the FCS confiscated over 1.7 thousand tons of tobacco raw materials.
23 criminal cases were initiated on the fact of smuggling tobacco products in the amount of 196.6 million rubles and seven-criminal cases on the fact of evasion of customs payments totaling almost 3.4 billion rubles. Also, the customs authorities initiated 3,407 cases of administrative offenses for the illegal movement of tobacco products with a total value of almost 125 million rubles. Most often they were associated with non-declaration or false declaration of goods - 1,847 cases, as well as with non-compliance with prohibitions and restrictions on the import or export of goods - 1,284 cases.
