The State Duma approved today in the first reading amendments to Article 171.1 of the Criminal Code, which provide for criminal liability for the production and trafficking in large and especially large amounts of tobacco and nicotine-containing products without labeling.
It should be recalled that draft law No. 775474-8, prepared by the Government of the Russian Federation, proposes to apply the same criminal liability measures against these offenses as those established for the production and turnover of unmarked alcoholic beverages.
Accordingly, for the production and trafficking of tobacco and nicotine-containing products without labeling, a fine of up to 500,000 rubles (or in the amount of the convicted person's salary for a period of up to 2 years), or forced labor for up to 3 years, or imprisonment for up to 3 years with a fine of up to 120,000 rubles (or in the amount of salary convicted for a period of up to six months). In this case, we are talking about violations on a large scale.
As previously explained in the Ministry of Finance, amendments to the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation are necessary to ensure compliance with the provisions of the law on the regulation of the tobacco industry, which prohibits the production and turnover of these products without labeling codes.
