The LDPR party has proposed to criminalize the repeated sale of energy drinks to minors. The corresponding initiative in the State Duma was made by deputies of the faction led by Leonid Slutsky, the bill was sent to the government for conclusion, the newspaper reported.Ru" in the party's press service.
According to the parliamentarians, the introduction of criminal liability will be a weighty argument for sellers, which will reduce the risks of re-selling harmful drinks to minors.
Those who commit a crime will have to pay a fine of 50 to 80 thousand rubles or a salary of three months to six months, they will also face correctional labor for up to a year with a ban on trading.
The party's leader Leonid Slutsky pointed out that the use of energy drinks provokes heart attacks, strokes, leads to problems with the nervous system and metabolism, and also causes diabetes. The deputy also noted the high risks of death.
"Children are our main asset, and taking care of their well–being is our absolute priority. The LDPR believes that the repeated sale of energy drinks to children should not be considered an offense – this is a real crime, and responsibility for it should be criminal. We propose to amend the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation so that merchants of this poison, spilled into banks, will understand – they will not stand on ceremony with them, they will not be able to get off with a fine! If you sell an energy drink to a child again, be ready for correctional labor and the stigma of a criminal for the rest of your life," Slutsky said.
Since March 1, 2025, Russia has banned the sale of energy drinks to minors. The restriction is quite mild: for example, in France, Denmark and Norway, they are sold only in pharmacies.
