A sharp increase in excise taxes on vapes has led to a sharp increase in shadow turnover, said Deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on Economic Policy, deputy of the United Russia faction Artyom Kiryanov.
In the new issue of the podcast "Legitimate Question", he told what led to a 110% increase (from January 1, 2024) in the excise tax rate on electronic cigarettes.
"It led to the fact that this industry was already, to put it mildly, shady, and now up to 99% of electronic cigarettes are illegal products. In the illegal segment, we do not know at all what all this is made of, where it is made, what is actually inside. You never know what is written on the label. We understand that we practically have no control over the entire flow from the point of view of health. There is a threat to people's lives. Therefore, it is also necessary to whitewash as much as possible here," the deputy stressed.
