Senators at the plenary session on November 27 will consider a law prohibiting the sale of lighters, cans for refueling and other gas-containing household goods to persons under 18 years of age.
Such products cannot be sold to children and teenagers either in a regular store or remotely. The seller will require documents from the buyer if there are doubts about his age. If the buyer did not take his passport with him, the product will not be sold to him. When buying online, the age verification rules will be determined by the Government of the Russian Federation. The Cabinet of Ministers will also develop a list of dangerous goods containing liquefied petroleum gases.
Earlier, the head of the State Duma Committee on Health Protection, Badma Bashankaev, drew attention to the fact that household gases, which are used for lighters or lighting bonfires, have now suddenly become a dangerous form of substance abuse. The mortality rate from inhalation of such gases is more than 90 percent. In other words, if a child tries to inhale gas, then by the second time death will occur in more than 90 percent of cases.
Sniffing (inhalation of liquefied gas) has recently been popular among teenagers. The guys sniff gas from lighters and cans to "get high." However, such experiments can cause arrhythmia, cardiac arrest and are highly likely to lead to death.
