Kabardino-Balkaria has become one of the subjects of Russia, where the largest amount of illegal tobacco products was produced in 2022. The republic took the third place among the leading regions in cigarette counterfeiting, the press service of the National Scientific Center of Competencies in the field of combating Illicit Trafficking in Industrial Products reported.
It was found that in Kabardino-Balkaria about 34% of tobacco is produced illegally. The region was second only to the Rostov region, where 40% of illegal tobacco was detected, and the Novgorod region, which became the leader with a counterfeit rate of 43.6%.
The total share of counterfeit tobacco in the Russian market has exceeded 12%, the competence center in the field of combating illicit trafficking of goods reported. Yaroslavl, Smolensk and Bryansk regions were also among the top five regions in terms of counterfeiting.
