Flexible export duties on tobacco

The Government of the Russian Federation has introduced flexible export duties on live animals, fish, dairy products, vegetables, fruits and a number of other goods in the amount of 4% to 7% at a rate above 80 rubles per dollar, follows from the relevant resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers.

The list also includes coffee, tea, cereals, prepared meat and fish products, sugar and confectionery, cocoa, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, tobacco products, animal feed. There are exceptions for some positions.

Earlier, the Russian government announced that flexible export duties on a wide range of goods linked to the ruble exchange rate will begin to operate in Russia from October 1. The measure is temporary and is aimed at protecting the domestic market. The duty will be from 4% to 7%, depending on the exchange rate of the national currency. At the rate of 80 rubles per dollar and below, it will be zero.

According to the document published on the Cabinet's website, the amount of the fee will be 4% at a rate of more than 80 and less than 85 rubles per dollar, 4.5% - at a rate of 85-90 rubles per dollar, 5.5% - from more than 90 to less than 95 rubles per dollar, and 7% - at a rate of more than 95 rubles inclusive.
