Souznapitki: in 2022, there were significant structural changes in the largest producers of sugar-free beverages.

The decline in sales of sugar-free soft drinks may be due to several factors, including structural changes in the largest manufacturers, the president of the Union of Juice, Water and Beverage Producers (Souznapitki) told Maxim Novikov to Izvestiya on January 16.

"Firstly, in 2022 there were significant structural changes in the largest manufacturers of this category of products, for various reasons, many players suspended the production of these products in Russia. Secondly, soft drinks are not essential products, which in conditions of economic fluctuations can lead to a decrease in demand for this category," Novikov explained.

As the president of the Union of Juice, Water and Beverage Producers noted, for several years the largest manufacturers have increased the share of sugar-free beverages in their portfolio.

According to him, such a general industrial solution for the development of a culture of rational consumption is also fixed in the Code of Voluntary Obligations, which was signed at the end of 2019 by the largest producers.

"At the moment it is difficult to predict further prospects for the development of the category, as the situation in the beverage industry remains unstable," he concluded.

Earlier in the day, the Kommersant newspaper, referring to NielsenIQ data, wrote that in the 12 months to November 2022, sales of carbonated sugar-free beverages in Russia decreased by 9.8% in physical terms year-on-year. At the same time, sales in money increased by 3.6% due to rising prices.

According to the publication, the shutdown of Coca-Cola and Pepsi production in the Russian Federation has led to a reduction in the segment of such products.

At the end of November 2022, an analyst at the research company NTech Tatiana Erofeeva reported that the increase in the cost of carbonated drinks, which began in the spring, was associated with an increase in the cost of logistics, packaging, ingredients, as well as delays in deliveries.
