Yaroslavl Region is among the leaders in illegal tobacco

In the Yaroslavl region, 34.1% of the tobacco market is occupied by smuggling and counterfeiting, which makes the region an anti-leader among the regions of Russia with the highest concentration of illegal tobacco products in 2022. In 2021, the indicator in the region was 20.6% of the market. The data follow from a research conducted by ANO "National Scientific Center of Competencies in the field of combating Illicit Trafficking in Industrial Products" in Russia.

The situation in the region is worse than the average in Russia, where the share of illegal products has increased to 12.1%. According to experts, Novgorod (43.6%), Rostov (40%), Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (34.1%), Smolensk (33.4%), Bryansk (32.7%) regions are also recognized as the regions with the highest concentration of illegal products.

The 2022 study covered 1,073 localities. During the field part of the research, 69.3 thousand empty packs of cigarettes were collected, which were later examined by experts.
