A group of deputies has submitted to the State Duma a bill on the extrajudicial blocking of Internet pages containing information on the remote sale of tobacco and nicotine-containing products. The document is posted in the Duma database.

The authors of the bill were, among others, deputies from United Russia Aidar Metshin, Alexey Weller, Anatoly Voronovsky, and LDPR deputy Andrei Lugovoy. They propose to amend the law "On Information, Information Technologies and Information Protection". According to the document, site owners will be required to identify pages with the remote sale of tobacco products for their further blocking without the participation of a court.

As stated in the explanatory note to the bill, online tobacco sales are prohibited by law. At the same time, "the mechanism for blocking prohibited information on the Internet is not effective due to the significant resource and time costs associated with blocking sites, which occurs only after a trial lasting from 60 days to six months," the explanatory note says.

At the same time, there is already an effective mechanism for the extrajudicial blocking of online alcohol sales pages, it can also be applied to online tobacco sales, the developers add.
